Paving the way for thousands of South Africans

The Bula Tsela Retail Scheme (RetailCo) is a component of Bula Tsela that is 100% black owned and has around 36 000 shareholders comprising over 50% black women and nearly 23% black youth ownership. Shareholders include individuals, small businesses, and groups such as trusts and stokvels.

In December 2022 Black members of the South African public were invited to subscribe to our Bula Tsela retail share scheme where a minimum of 200 retail scheme shares could be bought for R2 000, payable upfront. For those who could not afford it, the scheme enabled potential shareholders to buy 100 retail scheme shares for R1 000, payable over a 12 month period.

This transaction made Old Mutual the first financial services provider in South Africa to facilitate an offer of shares directly to the Black South African public, including lower-income earners.

Empowering our investors through roadshows

To further enhance the opportunities and understanding of the retail scheme, financial education roadshows specifically tailored for Bula Tsela shareholders are conducted throughout the year.
